HOW IT ALL BEGAN - by Lynsie Pentico
The number one question I get asked is how I got into massage therapy.
I received my first massage while in Hawaii in January of 2006. I went into it somewhat reluctantly, having several questions based on trust and safety and awkwardness, and...well, was it really worth that Hawaiian Island price?! Just like anything I don't understand, I learned my questions were based on fear and/or misperceptions.
Having gone through some emotionally and physically trying times just prior to this, I was inspired by the professionalism of my therapist at Hilton Hawaiian Village Spa and the results of my session: I felt good in every way. I told my therapist on the way out, "That was the best divorce therapy I could have ever had!" And I knew then that I wanted to learn the skill to help others feel that same way. (Worth every pretty penny! I can especially say that now since I've invested a prettier penny in my education.)

When I met Alan a year later, he mentioned that he had been considering going to UCMT for a few years. When I repeatedly saw the service and respect Alan gave to others and the trust others placed in him, I knew he would make a great therapist. And I felt inspired once again to put my fears behind me and give massage therapist training more serious consideration.
We got married, Alan was deployed with the Army to Iraq for a year, I enrolled at UCMT, Alan returned home from Iraq, enrolled at UCMT, and in what felt like a blink of an eye (wink, wink)--we were graduating together!
We consider our time at UCMT a challenging, grueling, enlightening, and wonderful gift. Now we are gratefully using the skills we initially knew we would enjoy learning, but have since discovered that we live and love to share.
